Scoring Criteria - For Students
State Team Problem 1998: Bank Loan Experience
The following are suggestions of what to look for when scoring student papers. Each part of the scoring rubric given to the students has been expanded to include suggestions of what you might look for in each category. This is to be used as a guide and is not necessarily all inclusive. The content area for this problem is Algebraic Sense.
The student will understand and apply concepts and procedures of mathematics
To meet this standard, the student will understand and apply Algebraic Sense
Operations
4 points max |
Option 2 |
=> Shows complete understanding of loan option 2 and the evaluation
of formulas
=> Evaluates and simplifies expressions accurately

The student will use mathematical reasoning
To meet this standard, the student will analyze information - interpret and integrate information from all four options
4 points max |
=> Lists at least one advantage for each option based on computations, summary, and graphs |
|
4 points max |
=> Lists at least one disadvantage for each option based on computations, summary, and graphs |
|
4 points max |
Draw conclusions and verify results - supports arguments and checks for graphs |
| => State recommended loan option => Gives comprehensive support for recommended loan option (May use advantages and/or disadvantages listed above) |
In this section you are looking for effective ways that students use to communicate their reasoning with applications and procedures as outlined above.
The student will communicate knowledge and understanding in both everyday and mathematical language
To meet this standard, the student will:
4 points max |
Organize and interpret information |
demonstrate interpretations and understanding in a clear, systematic and organized manner => clearly organized and neatly written charts for each of the four options
|
4 points max |
Represent and share information |
represent mathematical information and ideas in an effective format => the overall format of the presentation of information in report form for the Board of Directors is effective
|

truncate => |
Rating |
Each category will receive a score of 4, 3, 2, 1, or 0 based on the following table:
4 - meets or exceeds all relevant criteria
3 - meets most relevant criteria
2 - meets some relevant criteria
1 - meets few relevant criteria
0 - not scoreable: off topic, no attempt, can't read, etc.
(Example: If the total points received is 39, divided by 11 is 3.55, and then is truncated to a score of 3, which means they met most relevant criteria in solving the problem)
