Publication Policy

Thank you for considering publishing your work in WSMC's Teacher Exchange--an online journal of teaching tips, innovative curricula, and instructional strategies. As you prepare your manuscript please consider the following guidelines:

  1. Your submission must be your own work or that of credited collaborators and not submitted for publication elsewhere.
  2. Provide complete contact information with your manuscript. Include your name, school (or district), telephone number, and email address. Indicate whether you would like any of your contact information included with the published version of your manuscript.
  3. Prepare your manuscript with a word processor using a minimum of formatting.
  4. Prepare graphics in GIF or JPG format. Include them as separate files with an indication in the text where they belong (i.e. "Figure 1 goes here.").
  5. Permission must be obtained by the author if a photograph or student work which clearly shows the student's face or full name is included. Submit copies with your manuscript.
  6. Please use a spell checker and recheck your manuscript before mailing it for grammar, completeness, and spelling of all proper names, and full identification of all organizations and groups named by initials or acronyms.
  7. Provide accurate and complete bibliographical information. All references cited in the manuscript should be listed at the end of the manuscript. See recent issues for style. See the Chicago Manual of Style, 14th ed. (Chicago: University of Chicago Press, 1993) for additional details.
  8. If quotations are used, copy them exactly. Do not change any words or punctuation. Mark each omission by dots and put each interpolation in brackets. Indicate the author's italics by underscoring the words. If you want to add italics yourself, add the bracket words "(italics added)" or "(italics mine)."
  9. The source of every quotation should be given in full. Likewise, credit should be given for photographs and drawings.
  10. Permission must be obtained to quote copyrighted material and to reproduce copyrighted pictures or illustrations. Ordinarily, it is not necessary to obtain permission to quote a passage of less than 100 words from a long prose article or book; but permission is needed for more than a single line of poetry, and for more than 25 words of short prose composition. It is the author's responsibility to obtain the appropriate written permission for the use of any copyrighted material in his or her manuscript.
  11. All manuscripts submitted to the journals are reviewed for recommendations regarding publication of the materials. The final decision is reached by the Editorial Panel and conveyed to the author. In addition, articles accepted for publication are copy edited by the WSMC journals staff for readability. Authors are not paid for their contributions. As a condition for publication, authors are required to transfer their copyright to WSMC.

Submit your manuscript via email (as uncompressed attachments) or on computer disk to:
